Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy supports people to engage in meaningful daily occupations (activities or tasks) they need, want and are expected to do. These activities could be self-care, productivity/work or leisure-based.
Paediatric Occupational Therapy
Paediatric OT aims to support children and adolescents to develop their independence and engagement in all the important activities in their daily lives.
These activities can include play skills and social participation, school engagement and learning, self-care skills, and other daily activities.
OT's can support children and adolescents to develop skills such as:

Fine Motor Skills

Gross motor Skills

Handwriting

Visual-Motor Skills

Self-Care Skills (toileting, dressing, bathing, hygiene, feeding)

Play Skills

Social Skills and Social Participation

Sensory Processing and Integration Skills (their ability to register and organise sensory information from their environment, and use this information to engage in their task/environment successfully)

Cognitive Skills (including attention, problem solving, ideation, motor planning and organisational skills)

Self-Regulation (ability to adapt their level of energy/alertness, behaviour, emotions and attention)

Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (e.g. household chores, shopping, meal preparation, money management)
